Frequently Asked Questions
Every family’s story is unique, and so is the journey of capturing it on video. We’ve gathered some of the most frequently asked questions to help you understand how Video Biographies work—and to show you how simple and meaningful the process can be.
What is a Video Biography?
A Video Biography is a fully customized, cinematic retelling of a life story. Unlike a written memoir, it preserves not only the memories, but also the laughter, smiles, voice, and personality of the storyteller. We weave together interviews, photos, and videos into a film that celebrates a life and ensures that legacy is passed down for generations. For families who would also like something to hold in their hands, we can create a companion book version of the biography upon request.
What does a Video Biography include?
Each Video Biography begins with interviews that capture the heart of the story. From there, we bring it to life using favorite family photos, home movies, music, and sometimes outside research for added context. The result is a rich and emotional portrait - more than a timeline, it’s a living memory.
Where is the Video Biography filmed?
We’re based in McKinney, Texas, but we happily travel anywhere in the United States. Filming usually takes place in your home - or in a family member’s home - so you feel comfortable and relaxed during the process.
How do I know what to talk about during the interview?
Don’t worry—we guide you every step of the way. Before filming, we provide a list of thoughtful questions to help you reflect on your life. By the time we arrive, we’ll already know the areas of your story you’d like to highlight. And if you think of something after the session, we can arrange to film additional material.
What is the interview like?
It’s more like a conversation than an interview. We’ll sit down together and talk about your life, with gentle prompting when needed. To ensure the highest quality, we use professional cameras, lights, and microphones—so you can just focus on sharing your memories.
What happens after the interview?
Our team carefully edits your story into a polished film, weaving in your photographs, home videos, music, and other details. The final piece is an engaging, heartfelt retelling of your life—in your own words.
How long does it take?
We adjust to your timeline, but on average, most Video Biographies are completed in about two months. Once the first draft is ready, you’ll have the opportunity to review it and request edits.
How many edits can I request?
Your satisfaction is our priority. Our standard package includes up to three rounds of revisions, but additional edits are always available if you’d like more fine-tuning.
What do I receive when the Video Biography is complete?
Once you approve the final film, you’ll receive:
A private online link where you can download the Video Biography (easy to share with family and friends)
A physical copy in your choice of format (USB, DVD, or other)
All original photos and videos returned safely to you
For families who would also like a keepsake to hold, we can create a companion book version of the biography upon request
Can more than one person be interviewed?
Absolutely. Siblings, couples, or even groups of family members can be filmed together. Some of the most meaningful stories come when loved ones sit side-by-side, sharing memories and filling in each other’s details.
Do you offer shorter highlight videos?
Yes! In addition to a full-length film, we can create shorter versions tailored for special occasions—such as birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, memorials, or family reunions. If you have a specific event or idea in mind, we’re happy to discuss options that will fit your family’s needs.
How much does it cost?
Every project is unique, and pricing depends on factors such as length, complexity, and travel. We’ll work with you to design a package that fits your vision and budget. Reach out to us for a personalized quote.
